Lubec Water District

The District started around 1901, serving the business and homes in North Lubec.

We supply water to about 500 year round customers and  around 150 seasonal customers in the Town of Lubec.

The District has three sources of water supply. One is a covered spring. The other two sources are gravel packed wells. All three sources are located on the district land located at the end of the Pumping Station Road.

The District pumps and treats approximately 161,900 gallons of water each day. Which is  delivered through 17.7 miles of pipeline ranging in size from two to 10 inches .

We also maintain a 60,000 gallon underground reservoir at the pumping station and also maintain two Aquastore water storage tanks, which were installed in 1999 and 2000. The first tank is located in West Lubec and has a 314,000 gallon capacity. The second tank is located on School Street and has a 278,000 gallon capacity. This amount of water storage capacity allows us to maintain peak system demands at all times.

The District is a municipal corporation, charted by the State of Maine, and is a separate entity from the Town of Lubec. The formation of the District was approved by voters in 1949. The only source of revenue is money raised through water bills, public and private fire protection, and other utility services.
